MARYLAND DISTRICT 5 ISSUES

Veterans

Our nation must honor the sacred covenant that we have made with military families and our men and women in uniform. In my opinion, the United States has created the world’s greatest fighting force and its veterans deserve the world’s greatest healthcare. I strongly believe in taking care of our Veterans; yet too many of them suffer from untreated mental illnesses, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and homelessness.

When elected, I will push for bipartisan legislation in Congress to ensure that no Veteran, or military family, will struggle to pay their bills, put food on the table, or access quality housing and health care.

I will support bills that provide more benefits, better quality health care, and affordable housing, to more Veterans than ever before.

Below are are some areas I continue to support:

  • I will partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs to streamline the process through which Veterans can get easier access to the benefits they have earned.

  • Provide Veterans in Maryland District 5 with job training and educational resources needed to obtain employment and compete in the Private Sector.

  • Create and expand supportive housing for Veterans facing homelessness, followed by financial counseling which can be a path to permanent housing and home ownership.

  • Support the expansion of the G.I. Bill so that our Veterans can continue to have access to college, graduate school, and training programs.

  • l am committed to supporting Veteran-Owned small businesses. Congress must reform our procurement processes to make it easier for these businesses to compete, and win contracts; thereby accessing a sizable portion of recurring Government expenditure.
