MARYLAND DISTRICT 5 ISSUES
Public Safety
Crime, policing, and public safety should not be partisan issues; they affect us all.
My top priority as your representative will be to keep District-5 families safe by working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle in Congress to craft effective, evidence-based solutions for our District and the Nation.
I'll advocate for proactive crime prevention programs that target the root causes of violent crime, working to provide resources that support members of our law enforcement, and advocate for federal grants that support community safety initiatives.
In keeping our communities safe, we must also acknowledge that every year, thousands of Americans are affected by drug abuse and drug overdose. The Illicit drug trade destroys lives, tears families apart, and fuels crime. We need to take a comprehensive approach to solve these problems including prevention, treatment, and enforcement. This can be achieved through increased funding for drug treatment programs, better education about the dangers of drug abuse, and stronger criminal penalties for drug traffickers.
I will work with my colleagues in Congress to tackle these critical issues by creating a consensus of action backed by the community, law enforcement, and lawmakers.
